Profile: Lilly Fink Shapiro, MPH '15
Spent the past decade leading the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative at UofM
After leading the University of Michigan Sustainable Food Systems Initiative over the last decade, Lilly Fink Shapiro (MPH, 2015) transitioned to a new role this summer as a food systems consultant focusing on health, equity, and sustainability. She supports diverse clients working to create a better food system through strategy, evaluation, facilitation and curriculum design. Her clients include the Center for Regional Food Systems (Michigan), Community Food Strategies (North Carolina), the San Antonio Food Bank (Texas), and UK Cooperative Extension (Kentucky). At UM, Lilly collaborated with researchers, activists, funders, and Detroit community leaders in launching the nationally recognized community-academic partnership course, “Food Literacy for All.” She also co-launched the UM Detroit urban agriculture internship program and the inaugural Transformative Food Systems Fellowship, over $1 million to support underrepresented students to study sustainable food systems in graduate school. Lilly received the University of Michigan Staff Impact Award in 2019.
